Accessories

On Day One used collected rubbish to create structures working from 3D into 2D. I found this a successful process as I enjoyed randomly making something and then photocopying it, altering size, and having multiples to create shapes for accessories. Also used singular photos of these collected objects to do the same. This was much less stressful then worrying about what to design and then making it into 3D. To give more perspective we were instructed to place them on a partners body as well as on a muse of our choice. This was useful to see how these structures could be developed into accessories. However, if I was in need of a muse again I would aim to use a more diverse muse in alternating positions so I could work on all areas of the body.Another collaborative activity was working together on each others photocopies on a mannequin, this similarly was useful to gain a peers perspective on my own work and also a chance to work on completely different shapes made by them. From all this we had to then create a concept board with a chosen theme; for my theme I chose ‘Underwater life’ since one of my structures reminded me of seaweed and I was using a lot of blues and whites. Since I had done this before it wasnt so difficult. Most of my images however were from the internet so to keep in mind whenever making concept boards I should use more library resources for clearer imagery.

On Day Two we developed 5 ideas further, I found this quite difficult to start but decided to focus on the textiles, which is something I’m more familiar with, to form bags so used photocopies of my objects then developing new structures. I’m more familiar with textiles as during GCSE and A-Level I was encouraged to learn a range of different textile techniques such as pleating, CAD etc so it is familiar to me. I believe this was successful as I ended up with quite engaging textures for designs and I am proud of my final design idea.

Day Three consisted of just creating the final accessory. I first started by creating the box like structure with wire to create a secure base. This was not difficult but due to the thickness of the wire it was hard to tighten. Next time I would use a thinner wire that’s more easily adaptable and also using less wire means it would be more sustainable. To create the ‘seaweed’ like texture/shapes I used plastic bags which I had experimented with before. Plastic bags are also a big concern currently for the environment so this is reusing these bags but in a creative way. final edit 1 acessories
