Week 3 was all about trends. We were first set the task of conducting primary research around London. I visited Selfridges, Dover Street Market and the streets of London collecting information on current trends including shape, fabric, colours etc. My favourite current trend is NEON, as I think the colour attracts the eye. This was quite an enjoyable research task as being able to touch fabrics and look at them in real life is much more insightful than looking at them through a screen.
On the Wednesday and Friday there was a lookbook group exercise. From this I learned what a lookbook is and how it looks as well as how to attract the customer to sell a product. My group was assigned to create a lookbook for Roksanda, predicting their AW19 collection. For the customer profile we had to find a suitable ‘tribe’ from LSN as they had to be a current trending group of individuals. After voting for the top 3 lookbooks, our group was picked to present to the class. Our peers then gave us feedback; we should have made it more specific about their future designs instead of just praising their current collections. This was helpful as next time I make a lookbook I will recall the feedback and aim to display my predictions clearly.
During these days I was also taken out for a quick pattern cutting induction. Since I had done this before it was not anything new, however it was good to have my memory refreshed. To further this I could create a pattern of trousers, since I have not done this before.
