My job for the project was to create the garment. I used calico as I it is the easiest fabric for me to manipulate as I am used to it since I have used in many times before. the fabric is also undyed and manipulated which reflects the innocence of a pre-soldier. I unpicked old suit trousers and a jacket so I could use them as a template. This was not too difficult but I had to make sure the fabric were the right way and I was not cutting them wrong. We had planned as a group for the garment to be detachable as to represent pieces falling away and being damaged. To make this possible I used Velcro around the seams. To finish off the garment I sewed on buttons to add to the ‘military’ look.
Problems I came across was that the Velcro kept detaching so if i had more time I would have sewn the Velcro to the garment instead of sticking it on for more stability. I would have also liked for the collar to be more structured and larger, but for a first attempt I am quite happy with what I achieved.
